Profile
Thomas E. Loop, a Northwest native, specializes in patent law and technology licensing. Mr. Loop represents individual inventors, emerging technology companies, and multi-national corporations before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, as well as in State and Federal court. In addition to patent procurement and litigation, Mr. Loop’s practice emphasizes patent portfolio development and management (domestic and worldwide), patent position competitive analyses, due diligence studies, as well as invalidity, noninfringement, and freedom-to-operate opinions. Mr. Loop has extensive experience in developing proactive intellectual property strategies and procuring patents relating to the chemical and mechanical arts, including advanced composite materials, building construction components, biosensors, chemical processes, conveyors, fuel cells, lasers, medical devices, part fabrication and tooling, photodetectors, plastics and polymeric materials, optical systems, scintillators, semiconductors, and waste-to-energy conversion systems. Mr. Loop earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington (1987) and his law degree (with honors) from Seattle University School of Law (1997). Prior to practicing law, Mr. Loop worked as a senior chemical engineer for several aerospace and defense industry clients. Mr. Loop is admitted to the bar of the State of Washington, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, U.S. Federal Court for Western District of Washington, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Loop’s professional affiliations include the Washington State Patent Law Association, the Licensing Executives Society, the Federal Circuit Bar Association, and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
